Everyday that we are alive, we pollute this planet due to our constant selfishness and need for comfort items. The company that made your coffee ended up polluting the planet due to the oil used to power the machinery that ground the beans. The computer you've used has undoubtedly polluted too due to the amount of energy used to fabricate the plastic case and the energy that the computers uses too. However the number one enemy is the combustion engine.

When Karl Benz made the world first car, did he ever imagine the impact he would have on society? The wars for oil, the environmental effect, the oil based economy, the power that his invention would have over humanity and the inevitable fast work-pace that is require of people? No. All he had was money in his eyes. Greed. It is this greed, the need for more which will end up as our downfall. This planet will never meet its natural end, but rather become a barren wasteland. The saddest part is that our leaders acknowledge it, yet assign the environmental issue as a low priority. Wake up people.

Some would argue that it is instinctive of humans to pollute and degrade this planet, however I suggest otherwise. To simply suggest that we cannot do a thing is complacent and lazy. By pinning the issue onto another sector of civilization such as the Government, when we ourselves, the public have the power, is a sheer cop out. We must, every single individual, make the first steps towards cutting down oil consumption, and supporting alternative fuels. Only then can we persuade the Government and Private sectors into change.

How can we extend the life of this planet after all the damage we have caused? If an appliance isn't productive, why should you use it? Cut your journeys via car travel, cut down unnecessary luxuries, install solar panels, adapt to electrical power cars and importantly, understand how much of a carbon footprint you leave with your actions. Only then can we as a race possibly move forward with a stable future.
