If you had one day to spend with someone who's gone...Who would it be? Would it be someone from a different time and a different place? Or with someone who's time here was cut short? Would it be someone from your past? Or someone you grew up admiring from afar, never really getting the chance to talk to them? What would you do if you had that chance?

I mean this could be anything that you've ever desired with that one person. Would you want to show them your world? Letting them experience everything in your life. Maybe you would want to live their life and be a part of their world. And who knows, maybe it'll be nothing like your world. Maybe it'll be exactly like it. Maybe deep down, they'll be exactly like you. Someone trying to find their way; trying to find their place. Someone trying to find their self.
Maybe the person you would want to spend one more day with would be someone that you never got to say good-bye to? Or kissed them goodnight for the last time? Have you ever lost someone you loved and wanted one more conversation, one more day to make up for the time when you thought they would be here forever? Who hasn’t, right?
If you ask people this same question, you might hear the same response that you gave. The same answer that I gave; to once again, tell them how much I loved them. Even though these were the people they had loved their whole lives here . Maybe you want to relive the little things that meant a lot to you with that person. Whether it was with your dad, or mom, brother, sister, girlfriend, boyfriend, best friend, close friend, a friend you wish you had gotten to know better. It could be anything, with anyone.
Maybe it would be with a friend you grew up with but were unfortunately, separated. Would you go shopping, get your hair done or go see a movie. Would you toss the old football around or walk around the mall trying to pick up girls? Some might say that that's such an ordinary day. But maybe that's the point.
How often do we say, "If only I could have one more chance. Just one more opportunity to relive one of those special memories." We often dream about a perfect day, maybe a place exotic and far away. But when it comes to those we miss, we desperately want what was familiar to us. Maybe taking a walk hand in hand or watching the sunset in silence. Even one more argument. But what does this really teach us? To me, that the ordinary is precious. That even a normal day is a treasure.
I mean think about it. When you haven't seen a loved one in a long time, a few hours of catching up is priceless and exciting. It's a gift we wish for when we can't catch up anymore. That intimate feeling that we miss the most and wish we could have again. It could be a story that was read to you at your bedside, watching the night sky for shooting stars, your first baseball game, your first kiss, your last hug.
So from now on whatever you do, whatever it may be, whomever it may be with. Savor that day so you never have to say the words, "if only I could have one more chance," because hopefully, the chance you did get, was the best one you got.
