In the year 1880, Joseph Pilates birth took place in Germany. He moved to England from Germany in the year 1912. He was multi - talented. He was a boxer, a circus performer as well as a self defense trainer. He earned a living out of all of these professions. During the first World War, Joseph Pilates was sent to Lancaster to a camp in order to train other jail inmates about exercising and fitness regimes. This is where the pilates Exercise started from.
Joseph Pilates moved on from England to the United States in the year 1925 by ship. He met his to be wife Clara in the United States. Joseph Pilates and Clara Pilates started a studio in the New York city of the United States. They taught students from different parts of the United States in this studio until the year 1960.
So, you have got a basic historical knowledge about Joseph Pilates. But, what was Joseph Pilates known for? Joseph Pilates was the developer of the Pilates exercise. The Pilates exercise is an exercise that trains the students to use the mind to control all the different muscles of the body. The main focus of the pilates exercise was on the muscles of the abdomen. This helps to maintain the balance of the body. And as you know, a balanced body will provide the right support to your spine.
The exercises in Pilates help the individual to get a control on his breathing as well as to align his spine along with his torso. The Torso muscles are strengthened in this way. When our body has strong core muscles, any kind of pain of the neck or the back do not happen in our body.
You would want to know why a multi talented man Joseph Pilates went on to design the exercises instead of earning from his other professions. The fact is that he did not take it as a profession. When Joseph Pilates was young, Joseph Pilates suffered from many ailments such as the rickets, the rheumatic fever and he also had asthma. Due to the sufferings he got from all these ailments, he wished to dedicate his life to a specific target. His target was to become stronger, gain better health and help other to do the same.
At the age of 14, Joseph Pilates, due to the practice of bodybuilding and gymnastics became strong enough to post for anatomical charts. His beliefs that all the sufferings of the body were a result of poor breathing and poor posture got worldwide praises for him. He became famous for his exercises and hence, these exercises were named as Pilates. |
