Okay, first let me clarify that this is not another article about SEO and how to get traffic from search engines. Instead this article focuses on some alternative traffic resources which are less discussed and many beginners are not even aware of (although many webmasters are using them to drive huge traffic to their sites).
Before I begin, first a note on content! SEO and other traffic sources are fine to get traffic to your website by landing in first time visitors. However, if you want to convert those first time visitors to regular visitors to your website; it is important that you build a good quality content base. Converting first time visitors to regular visitor is very important to have a steady growth.
Video Sharing Sites
Video sharing sites if used properly can get you loads of traffic and many webmasters are already using it effectively. You upload a video to any video sharing websites like YouTube, DailyMotion etc. and leave a link to your website or blog in the description of the video (or perhaps watermark it on the video itself) and hope that out of all the people who watch the video some would visit the link provided. Though, it is not as easy as it sounds. If your video gets only a few views it is hardly of any help. So you should try to create a video which has the potential to go viral or at least get a decent amount of views. May be you could choose a hot topic and it also helps if the video is related to the niche of your website.
Blog Commenting
Although you can not expect a deluge of traffic from blog commenting it nevertheless offers some good potential. Leaving quality comments (being spammy would be counter productive, so beware!) on popular blogs gets you noticed by other bloggers, some of whom may visit your website or blog and may even subscribe to it. It won’t work magic overnight but it has the potential to build a regular visitor base over a longer period of time. And if you are into SEO you already know the benefits of commenting on DoFollow blogs.
Twitter
Twitter can get you some traffic too! If you are a regular at Twitter and have a good follower base you can post a tweet once in a while with a link to your site. It is advisable again not to be spammy and use your own judgment while making such a tweet.
Email Signatures
One of the most neglected ways to get traffic. Think about how many emails you send out everyday (yeah, including those email forwards!). Now how about creating a signature with a link to your website and attaching it to every mail that you send out. Sure not everybody who gets your email would be clicking on the link, but hey, some would and that counts.
