I've seen and been into meetings where they sell you a deal they call it about selling your site up with a domain (they purchase) then a server with 100MB space and a 1GB bandwidth for only $50 dollar per month. I will show you the real way not to get ripped off. First of all there is hosting out there most of them over 100MB and 1g bandwidth. That is like free free hosting. If you want to start off making sites some of the sites I started off with is www.freewebs.com (don't really recommend it very small face crappy ads but you get a really great template chooser), www.t35.com (you get ftp access and stuff and a lot of space but ads on the footer better than freewebs.) Paid Hosting. I only choose hosting that comes with cpanel. It is very usable and very easy to control and add databases. Second I look for good good space and bandwidth and good support. The worst thing is your site is down and oh no where to turn to? You email the support several times but they are sleeping or something else and your site is down and then after a week they finally fix the problem and it's up. The thing is all your visitors just assumed your site died (as in sold, expired domain name, etc) and never come back. Now the thing is you have to advertise and get all your old visitors back. You don't want that do you? The next thing is choosing the plan. Now I would start out with a shared hosting, because it has the cheapest price for real beginners. When your progress makes your site more public and you get more visitors you have to ask, "should I upgrade?" The next plan is VPS Virtual Private Servers. Virtual Private Servers most of them get their own dedicated ip address and its like a dedicated server but its virtual not real. Like how when you partition your hard drive you dont' have a second hard drive. It is really good because you share with less people on the server (most of them are like 10, 100 not like 1000 or even more on shared hosting plans). The last and the plan I like when you have a crazy amount of visitors is a dedicated server. A dedicated server is a server that is all yours. You do not need to share with anyone. A dedicated server is like a computer in a data center (where they keep all the servers). For dedicated server you can control almost everything you could have more permission than shared and have your own support team and own backup team. Also there is reseller hosting (you can get that in dedicated also). It is basically it could be shared with other people but you get a reseller cpanel which means you could create cpanel accounts so people could use them and put their domain. You could sell the hosting (that's why its called resell). This is called reseller hosting. Obviously if you pay for dedicated you get a reseller cpanel but if you sell these you will only be sharing with them because your paying for a server entirely yours. Now I'll categorize the good hosting sites Shared Hosting They offer shared hosting as low as $4.95/ month. I would go with that because it is unlimited bandwidth and unlimited space. It also has template builders, site builders and it has unlimited ftp accounts. Reseller Hosting The lowest is $24.95/month 24GB of space and 250GB of bandwidth. That means you could resell that much to other people (split the space and sell as much as you like till you run out of space). Dedicated Hosting Dedicated hosting for big sites with a lot of traffic. The lowest is $174 dollars per month. With this you get a outstanding 80GB space and 1500GB bandwidth. This also gives you 5 unique IP addresses and other bonus features BlueHost- I used this hosting before. It is very great and very fast. One of the biggest hosting companies also. All their prices is the same 6.95 because its shared. The good thing is that with this price it includes adwords and yahoo advertising credit. This means when you start your site you can use it and advertise your site without paying for it. This is also unlimited space and unlimited bandwidth. There is a little bit more bonus than the one in Hostgator's shared hosting because its more expensive. It has ssh access and search engine submission. Fatcows- Like all the good hosting company I offered no rip off this one isn't one either. This has unlimited space and bandwidth. It is only $5.5 dollars per month which is $66/year. That is a great deal. There isn't a lot of bonuses like the first two but its a very good price. HostPapa- Includes like all the non-rip off hosting companies provide...unlimited space and unlimited bandwidth. It also includes free domain name (bonus) and a free yahoo ads (only $25 dollar). I never used this before but it looks very good. Maybe as not as much bonus as the first 3 but it is in Canada where I live. IxWebHosting-It is also unlimited hosting. It comes with free domain. VERY cheap $3.95/month the downside is it only has 50 MySQL databases so if you want to have a lot of scripts running or scripts requiring more than one this isn't a good one for you. It also doesn't support CGI. It is very cheap though compared to the rest. Lunarpages-I used this before and I loved it. The customer support is really fast. The cheapest shared hosting is $4.95 like all the rest it is unlimited space and bandwidth. The good thing it is also unlimited emails. Lunar pages offer something different from some of the sites above, not only it lists shared it also lists dedicated, reselling, windows servers. The dedicated servers are the cheapest of all in this article $99 the cheapest one. It is 80GB and if you order soon you might even get a bonus package $1000 dollars!! WebHostingPad- Used it once and I liked it. It is $4.95 / month and it comes with a few bonuses like unlimited email and site builder. Doesn't come out with outstanding bonuses but the price is pretty cheap and it has unlimited space and bandwidth also. Tips: (Apply to all web hosting) 1. DO NOT buy per month you will get ripped off by the setup fee. Only web host you should buy per month is Hostgator (use coupon and you end up paying 1 cent). 2. Most of the times sign up then don't buy (not cancel but as leave the page) and another better offer will likely come up. This is how you get better offers. 3. FIND FIND FIND coupons on the internet.. GOOGLE is your friend :) 4. REMEMBER shared->reseller->vps-> dedicated DON"T PAY what you don't need or DON"T pay what you overuse or your site will crash 5. PRICE its not just the price it is the SUPPORT you get. YOU don't want your site to be DOWN. 6. Happy reading.
