If you've ever looked for cheap hosting online, you must have seen these "top 10" sites that have hosts offering unlimited space and bandwidth for $5 a month! Surely you must be crazy to use some other host that offers 3 GB of webspace and 15 GB of bandwidth for the same price, right? Wrong! These hosts that offer huge amounts of web space and bandwidth simply oversell to a huge extent. These hosts know that most people might use a few hundred MBs of webspace, and maybe an even smaller amount of bandwidth, so they can fit many people on a single server. You will be likely on a very crowded server with atleast 300 other people, many of whom may be spammers, which could get the servers I.P. blacklisted. You will also recieve more downtime than other hosts that don't oversell as much because some users could be using very data intense scripts. Now you may ask, how come do all of these "top 10" site recomend these kind of hosts? The reason is, they get paid for it. All these major hosts offer some sort of referral program that pays around $100 or so dollars per each customer referred, so all of these top 10 sites are making a killing from people visiting them to try and find cheap web hosting. Now that you've heard all this, you most likely will not want to ever want to use one of these hosts ever in your life. Thats a good thing, and most webmasters once they learn about this don't want to use them either. The best thing to do would be to go to some place like web hosting talk and find a web host in their web hosting offers. Hope this helps anyone with questions :). |
