Yesterday I met with Chad Parker, President and CEO of Cybernautic Design in Bloomington-Normal, Illinois. Cybernautic sits on the side of a main road that runs through the Illinois State University campus. The moment I walked inside, I immediately became attuned to the casual, relaxed atmosphere, the aesthetically pleasing interior with giant hanging Oriental paper lanterns, a sleek leather couch by the window, and dynamic work stations adorned with beautiful large-screen iMac computers.

In this relaxed setting, Chad offered me a drink and we sat down to discuss my background and knowledge. I told Chad that I had been creating content for websites for over two years, that in this last year, I dived head-first into blogging and was now running seven different sites. I elaborated on my experience with social media and Web tools, and talked about my recent foray in SEO. A lot of our conversation centered around SEO tools and SEO marketing, about how to drive traffic using natural search and link bait. I showed him the SEO guide I was using and described some of the practices I had done on my own.

We were meeting for a reason. Lately the demand for SEO services has increased and Chad knew the importance of expanding his business in this area. We joked about how SEO was probably the only sector of the economy that was growing. But it's no joke. More and more people are turning to the Web in economic hard times. With less overhead than a traditional, bricks and mortar business, the Web promises instant sales. The future of America is the virtual company. Now the question is: How will web design firms respond to the increased demand for SEO marketing?

I am hoping to work for Cybernautic Design on a pro bono basis. At the end of the meeting, Chad told me he would contact me when one of their clients asked for a more aggressive marketing plan. But I didn't want to wait until then. Moreover, I preferred to work for free at first. The reason for this is my strategies are not set in stone and before I work with a paid client I would like to develop a free campaign. That's when Chad suggested I help him on the Cybernautic website which will soon be changing.

Before burying yourself in research for a given company, it is necessary to outline a solid set of SEO marketing packages. SEO packaging, like all information products, is almost as important as the service itself. The way a marketing plan is packaged depends on whether a client will want to buy it and even trust you, the Web marketer. Not only that but clarifying your SEO marketing package helps you to understand your own blueprint for Search Engine Optimization.

My goal in the next post is to outline three SEO packages for web design firms and SEO consultants to use. I will present the information for buyers, and then I will present the corresponding blueprint for the SEO practitioner, that is, the SEO strategies behind the marketing plan. For every company that wants Web traffic you will find a different price line. Some companies will have a thousand dollars to pay upfront for SEO services. Others will prefer a strict budget solely based on keyword advertising and sales commissions. Many companies don't know anything about social media marketing and so you will have to be able to give them some information about the latest trends in your packages. The SEO expert needs to be armed with these diverse packages in order to sell his services. In addition to knowing what he sells, he needs to know the specific routes to delivering those products.

The challenge of SEO is this. There is virtually an endless number of avenues for an SEO consultant to pursue. Do you begin with paid advertising or organic search? Do you focus on a keyword campaign or target an online community? And what about social media? Which areas are the best to pursue for your clients? While a customized marketing plan is absolutely necessary for each client, so is a solid set of SEO products.
