Everybody knows chocolate is one of the most popular treats around the world. But do they know why chocolate is so good for them? Chocolate not only helps improve your day but it will help your health as well. It also makes a great personalized gift for your loved ones.
Cocoa butter is what makes chocolate, well, chocolate. The reason chocolate contains antioxidants and vitamin C is the cocoa butter that's in it. It helps protect your brain from free radicals. Free radicals are unstable molecules that bond to other good molecules in our bodies. They destroy our good molecules causing tissue damage, diseases and aging. Antioxidants prevent free radicals from harming our good molecules. Thus, preventing healthy tissue from damages such as aging and diseases.
Chocolate contains antioxidant that can prevent aging and diseases. It also increases serotonin levels in the brain. Serotonin is a natural hormone in the brain that influences our moods, anxiety and helps relieve depression. It also regulates aggression, appetite and sexuality. It is considered the "happy" hormone that gives us a sense of well being.
There is also a small amount of caffeine in chocolate that acts as a stimulant. You would have to eat a very large quantity of chocolate to get enough caffeine as a cup of coffee but it's enough to get your body reacting. Chocolate also contains Tryptophan.
Tryptophan is one of the building blocks of our DNA and a vital production of serotonin and melatonin. Being one of the most vital amino acids the body requires we could not survive without Tryptophan. The old wives tale of drinking a glass of warm milk before bed will help you sleep better is no old fashion cure. Dairy products contain Tryptophan as does bananas, poultry and chocolate.
The flavonoids in chocolate help with heart functions and blood pressure. Flavonoids are what make a plant's flower and fruits have their vibrant colors. They are passed on to us when we eat them and help fight certain cancers, heat disease and aging. They trigger the production of enzymes that help our bodies fight diseases.
Eating chocolate can help in the prevention of high cholesterol and high blood pressure. It also helps you deal with stress and anxiety. But a little bit goes a long way. Remember the butter, cream and sugars that go into a chocolate bar and your waistline if not eaten in moderation. Just like with anything you eat, over indulgent will make the benefits of chocolate useless.
Although this is the actually science behind it, most people just know eating chocolate makes them feel better. Eating chocolate can lift up your mood and stimulant your life to make everything A-okay. So go for it-have a chocolate bar today and be healthier tomorrow.
