Writer's FAQ

Writer's FAQ

Q: What kind of pieces can I write for Say It Aloud?

A: Just about anything. For obvious reasons there are a few topics that are off limits such as condoning illegal acts; however for the most part you can write about anything you want. We love articles, stories, observations, poems, comics, and even some well written rants. The possibilities are near endless.

Q: How many articles can I submit in a day to Say It Aloud?

A: There is no limit to the number of articles that you submit. The biggest restriction is that each article must be original. We don’t want articles that are already all over the web simply because search engines frown upon it and it can actually lower our ranking and decrease the number of sponsors who support our writers. So dust off all your writings you have saved in your docs, put into digital, all your great works sitting in a three ring binder, and submit them over today.

Q: How do I become a writer for Say It Aloud?

A: Getting paid for your efforts is simple. Fill out the application form and paste your article into the provided section. A moderator will review the article and check that it is original content. If your work is good you will be approved. If your work needs some improvement, the moderator will help you a little and you will be approved. If your work is poor, content is copied all over the web, or violates the Say It Aloud Terms of Service, you may be asked to submit another application at a later time.

Q: How are Say It Aloud writers paid?

A: Once a writer has been approved and verified, they will be able to start submitting articles immediately. When an article first goes up it is given some pay per click ads and any advertisers interested in that category are notified that a new article has gone up. Once those pay per click ads are replaced by a sponsor, the author of that writing are paid a percentage of what the sponsor pays.

Q: Do writers make money on the pay per click ads?

A: Say It Aloud has many expenses including hosting, marketing campaigns, and staff expenses. The small amount of revenue that comes in from the pay per click ads is used to pay for these expenses. By not paying writers for the pay per click, Say It Aloud is able to minimize poor writers who would throw up tons of content and pay out larger percentages of each sponsorship spot.

Q: How much does a writer get paid?

A: Writers are paid a percentage of each article when a sponsor pays for a sponsorship ad in that authors post. The percentage gets higher as a writer submits more articles until it caps out at 50%. If all three sponsorship spots are sold and the writer’s article is split into two pages, a writer can make $135.00 per article. If a writer submits two pieces a day that is fully sponsored, a good author can make just under $100,000.00 a year.

Q: Are there other ways for writers to make money?

A: Yes. In addition to being paid for sponsorships, writers can place a “Support this Writer” link on the bottom of each article where readers and sponsors can send the writer money directly. The writer keeps 100% of that donation. Say It Aloud will also be awarding a categories best article a percentage reward pulled from a portion of all the proceeds from sponsors for that section. This can be hundreds, if not thousands of dollars awarded to the writer of the winning article. That persons article will also be the featured article of that section and may end up on the front page of the Say It Aloud site. Sponsors will be motivated to sponsor more of those writers’ articles for the opportunity to get space in a premium spot at no extra charge. Sponsors may also contact writers to write Finally, a writer can become a moderator as well, which pays for reviewing new applicants and keeping the peace in Say It Aloud.

Moderators are also the only people who can remove articles from a section and penalize writers and commenter’s who violate the Say It Aloud terms of service.

Q: What happens if I violate the terms of service?

A: If you want to know what happens if you violate the terms of service then you haven’t read the terms of service.
