Money For Nothing

A few days ago I found a job on the Internet that required posting EBay listings for some one . The employer said I would get ten percent of the final sale. Posting these items look less than ten minutes. The final sale for the 4 items that I was selling was over 1800 dollars. This was a dream come true. I was doing barely any work and was making almost 200 dollars. Well eventually reality hit me on the head hard when I got an email from the employer stating that he was from Romania and wanted me to western union the money before he sent the items out. This had scam written all over it. To make a long story short, I had to refund all the money back to the buyers and explain the situation to them. So what is the point of this story? The point is that it's impossible to get money from doing nothing. Even the Dire Straights had to work on playing music to release that song. Everyone including myself wants to get rewarded for putting no work in whatsoever. That's why we play the lottery and go to Las Vegas. Yes, a very small percentage of those people actually do get lucky but it probably has something to do with karma rather than luck.

Why do we want money for nothing? We want money for nothing because we hate to work. A majority of us work jobs that we despise and roll out of bed every morning hoping that the building blows up. However if you asked Kobe Bryant, or the Jonas Brothers if they loved their jobs you would get a totally different answer. The reason is that to them their job does not seem like a job because they love doing it. If we loved our jobs then we certainly wouldn't mind working them. This seems like common sense but why do so many people continually choose jobs which they have no desire to work for? It's because we lack confidence in choosing a career that we love. To do something we love requires taking some sort of risk. Because of this risk, people end up going with the office job that provides security and a 401k rather than selling their favorite artwork. However with the state that the economy is in, it may be beneficial to evaluate what we really want to do. It will certainly take hard work, especially if you are married and have a family, but acting on your passion and making a career out of it will absolutely pay off in the long run. Start a plan. Take getting laid off or fired as a blessing in disguise. What do you really want to do? You may have to work a few jobs which you aren't particularly fond of to fund your passion, but once you really get going you will be able to rely solely on what you love. The best part is that you may even think you are making money for nothing.
