On shaking hands with the mountain breeze Every fir tree did freeze. The growling of the polar bears resonated Heralding Christmas, the much awaited. Monotonously did he pack And placed the presents in his sack. The elves heard him sulking,” I too want a gift!”[L] When a huge Christmas present he was bending to lift. “Poor Santa!”, chorused the elves As they fetched more gift wrappers from the shelves. “We’ll surprise our benevolent old man this year And with great delight he will cheer.” Stealthily a few elves went away To visit little kids from Egypt to Paraguay. Each lad and lass was told To wrap a gift for Santa, the kind & old. All rattled their brains a lot To think of a suitable gift to be bought. A treadmill was bought by tiny Timny To help him easily get down his chimney. Hair colour was bought by boisterous Ben To make Santa look young again. Plump Pompy packed a cold cream To avoid seeing a dry-faced Santa in her dream. Merry Maria picked on chocolate bars And silly Sam chose toy cars. Richie Rich bought him an airplane To relieve him from the reindeer-ride strain. A shepherd’s son named Brutus Was busy carving a stone Jesus. The poor boy with tattered clothes to wear Packed the stone figure with utmost care. Then blew the Christmas eve breeze
They placed the gifts under the Christmas trees. Behind the children’s’ homes the children lurked ![]() And saw how well their plan worked. There Santa came riding in the moonlit night His reindeer’s nose radiating red light. ![]() He slid down the choking chimney Unaware of what he was about to see. Under the well-lit Christmas tree An untidily wrapped gift he could see. On it was written in a dirty hand, “Now you too have to give me something grand!” Santa was so very amazed With surprised eyes, at the gift he gazed. He took the gift & left a better one Receiving a present seemed so much fun. Then to the next house he went There too was kept a luxurious present. He received a gift from every kid From mufflers to goggles to cookie jar lid. At last, he reached poor Brutus’ home It was a little hut shaped like a dome. He saw a beautifully packed thing Its ends tied with a woollen string. To see its contents he was so curious And tore it open in a great fuss. The figure reminded him of Jesus’ selfless sacrifice Santa went as cold as ice. That was the most precious gift he could ever get His greedy behaviour, Santa began to regret. That poor shepherd boy’s tiny Jesus was meant To teach that ‘Joy Of Giving’ is the greatest present!!! |
