Where were those men? They came in great grandeur, Between gun salutes and garlands, Only to be forgotten within a few days, Like the place where their coffins, Would now be placed, After a few consoling words, By some creep and old statesman, The crowd dissimulates, families gulp tears, We have learned to live like this. Oh the numbers too many to be counted, The deaths too ordinary to be shown on TV, They are forgotten fast, faster in fact, Than a poor joke in the numerous soaps we see. Where were those men? When they bade their final goodbye, Where will be those men? Only in ground six feet deep inside. And daddy says to son, look here, You are wasting electricity, we all need money, The taxes are too high nowadays son, This government is all shit, honey, And so the sons say to other sons, And the dads say to other dads, They all solemnly and gravely mutter, Of the doomed future in this country for their lads. And so the bucks are being passed today, Between the intelligentsia and the parliament, Those fools, why are they there? Say the dads, Those fools, they don’t care, laugh the men in white. They all are right, both sides are damn right, When the coffins are laid to ground, It’s just another of the numerous sights. Where were those men? When they killed to save our oil and electricity? Where will be those men? Only for 30 seconds or less on our TV. Give me the name of any one soldier, Who went and stood ground on this side of the border, Forget it; switch on the TV son, They are meant only to follow their superior’s orders. |
