Standing in centerfield, a ball gets hit to you. In order to catch the ball you have to run 10 steps. You make a diving catch and grab it with the tip of your glove. Never during this time did you think about how many ants you stepped on, did you? Ants are everywhere in the ground. We walk through the grass like we own the place killing numerous amount of ants each day! Maybe not even killing them but leaving them half squashed and squirming. Just think about all the times you have walked through the grass. And while taking those 10 steps to catch the ball plus diving you could have squashed hundreds of ants! As a kid did you ever step on an ant hill just for fun? These ants spent hours making their working/home area just for you to crush it for no reason but entertainment to yourself. It's like a giant coming in and just stomping on your home. Luckily, that's not the way it works. And not only do we step on them but I'm sure we run over them with our cars. They are just so small that you can't avoid them or see them. You may see them on the sidewalk or in the grass if you are paying attention but if you are just out for a walk in the park you aren't thinking of the bugs that you are stepping on. And if we did then no one would step a foot on grass at all. Its like "Honey, I Shrunk the Kid" and "Honey, I Blew up the Kid" those movies bring perspective on two different levels. The first one, the kids were shrunk and taken outside in the backyard where they are comparable to ants. And then in the second movie, the baby is blown up to giant size and goes around stomping on things because he's a kid and it was entertaining to him. If people were ants we would be more cautious of the ground we walk on. There are a lot of insignificant objects around us that on a daily basis we don't even think about or notice. Sometimes things become such a habit to us we don't really remember going from point A to point B. When you get in your car and drive to work every day, are there days when you get to work and you start thinking and realize that whole trip was just a blur. It's like we are on auto pilot. Spice things up, take a different route to work. |
