Watching the beginning of Amazing Race, Season 14 the most interesting thing happened. There was a guy that ran out of the helicopter with his mother which wasn't the most interesting thing, the most interesting thing was, he is deaf. The only thing that would've added the excitement and interest to this person is if his mother wasn't there standing next to him interpreting everything the game show host said. There's nothing wrong with having an interpreter, there's everything wrong with what happened next. Luke Adams is not the first deaf person to appear on the show Amazing Race. There has been one but the deaf person was on the Amazing Race Asia show not the one that is here in America. He appeared very excited and enthusiastic about being on the show and signed to his mother throughout the beginning talking about how he was there to prove that deaf people can do anything. Luke was very focused on the idea of being a deaf person and seemed to forget that he was on a game show! While the concept is a very widely accepted one, he seemed to really abuse the concept of being a disabled person and coming onto the show expecting to be treated like he always thought he was being treated growing up. The most embarrassing thing when watching the show was not the actions he had with his mother but the end where he sobbed like a baby about how this just proves that deaf people can do anything. While deaf people are constantly oppressed, there is such thing as going too far. Luke definitely went too far at this point but of course we will see how he acts in the next show. Stay tuned for next week's review of Amazing Race Season 14!! |
