'Slumdog Millionaire' is that film made India proud as it is nominated in 10 categories of the Academy awards. The film has bagged nominations in categories of best picture, best direction, editing, original music score, original songs by A.R.Rahman, Cinematography. sound editing. sound mixing and screen play.
The story is all about an 18 year old orphan boy from the slums of Mumbai, who is about to experience the biggest day of his life. Every dog has his own day. And this becomes true in the case of Jamal Malik the slum boy enacted by Dev Patel. He is just one question away from winning a stunning 20 million Indian rupees in India's 'Kaun Banega Crorepati" the Indian version of "Who wants to be a millionaire". The whole nation is watching him..What next. As the show starts of the night, Police arrests him on suspicion of cheating. The producers of the show themselves become suspicious and alert the Police. British director Danny Boyle takes another fascinating leap in his career, with this slumdog. As the Police interrogates this boy Danny Boyle tells his story through the haunting flash backs that shows the miserable and terrible poverty in the slums of Mumbai and how all those helped him to know the answers to the millionaire questions. The script writer is Simon Beaufoy. Their incongruous relationship here have produced a lots of potential energy which transmits to the crowds as emotional energy. Slumdog millionaire is as bitter as it is clear eyed about the brutal power dynamics in Mumbai. But at the same time it is so warming as it has a rousing ending. No one can believe Jamal's success as he represents an Indian, in the present situations.A Muslim by name winning a show, winning the hearts of the millions of viewers is something quite applaud-able. The film shows that intelligent mind can be pruned from anywhere, whether in the castles orĀ the hunky slums. It is a matter of guts, opportunity and of course the pinch of salt, i.e. luck. All of them when come on a straight line and join together such successes can happen. In India there is wide campaign and publicity against the film. The main argument about the film is that it depicts India's poverty and sells. Many of them says that even an average Indian Director can make this film even better. And the question is will the slum dog bark in the Academy hall. Everyone in India is eager to see that this film creating history in the Academy awards. Whether A. R Rahman like in"Golden Globe" keeps their hopes live in the Oscars. If so it will be a magical moment for India. |
