Ever stop to think about what other people around you are thinking? People watching is an amazing thing. It really gets you thinking. Try putting yourself in their shoes. What are they thinking about? Maybe they are hungry. Maybe they are talking to themselves about what is going to happen that day or what they need to do. Or maybe they are just walking along singing to themselves. Have you ever stopped at a red light and thought, “what are all these people thinking about?” Some might be on their cell phones talking, others singing, daydreaming, etc. It’s weird to think of all the different things that they might be thinking about. The options are endless.

People watching can be so entertaining. And it’s not to sit there and make fun of people. It’s to observe different people in everyday life when normally you would just walk by them and not even notice. People walk by and you observe what they are doing or who they are with and you can come up with your own story of what is going on.

You are driving down a road and come to an intersection. You see a man on the side of the road with a sign that says, “Homeless. Will work for food. God Bless.” Then you start thinking. Is he really homeless? Maybe he is, but can you help but not trust people today and think that he isn’t. Sometimes they have rather nice clothes on and it makes you wonder if someone helped him out to get some nice clothes or if he’s not homeless and those are the rattiest clothes that he can come up with to try and get money. Sometimes you think to yourself that if he wanted to get a job he could because there are shelters to help clean you up and get you a job. Then you stop to think, what if this is the best he can do? You don’t really know because you aren’t in that position yourself. You ask yourself questions what would I do if I were him? You can’t really answer it because you aren’t in that position. You can guess what you might do but when it really comes down to it desperate times call for desperate measures. You don’t know how he got there. It could be that he is a drunk or a gambler and blew his money away or maybe he got laid off and just got in over his head.

You wonder how many people gave him money already or helped him get food. You question yourself if you should help him because he could really need it, but he might be lying. So do you or don’t you?

We can’t help but think. And you always have an opinion whether you choose to share it or keep it to yourself is different. The fun part about people watching is make believing. You could be way off on the real story but to you at that time it’s what you believe. It shows your imagination and creativity. Next time someone walks or drives try thinking about what is going on in their head. It might give you an new look on life.
