A few may have heard about archery elk hunting. It is not that popular as shooting elks. Archery in itself takes practice. You need to be precise when releasing the arrow. You also the need the right type of bow and arrow for elk hunting and not just some ordinary bow and arrow you may be used to.

In this type of hunting, you need extreme focus and the right timing. Unlike in shooting, you aim for the target and just shoot the animal. In archery, you aim for the target, you consider the wind and air as this might affect the trajectory of your arrow. You need the exact pull of the bow string and releasing it just in time to take your kill. You have to calculate all the known factors like the wind, as I’ve mentioned earlier, the speed or your arrow and how far you need to pull the string.

So, you know hunting an elk with a gun is hard enough but doing it with a bow and arrow is much…much harder. This is another challenge for elk hunting enthusiasts. You can be considered an expert hunter if you use archery for hunting. Few hunters use archery for hunting.

Despite the challenges and the negativity of archery elk hunting, let us discuss how to use this challenging yet fulfilling kind of elk hunting.

The tools you would need are a special type of bow and arrow. The bow to be used would have to be durable and specifically for elk hunts. The arrows, on the other hand, should be sharp enough to pierce the animal. The length of which should be at the right length. Ask your local elk hunting guide to know the right length of your arrows. You need as many arrows as you can since you this won’t take a single arrow shot to bring your elk down. An advice is to shoot it down quickly so as not to escape.

You need to make the right archery stance as you would be holding this stance for a period of time. Practice making your stance behind trees or bushes or anywhere that elks won’t be able to see you. Use fatigue clothing to blend in with the trees and the bushes.

Ranches or forests where elk hunting is offered may offer archery elk hunting. Guides will teach you on how to effectively shoot an arrow. There may be some practice archery involved before the hunt so that you know how to take your target down. For those who have experience in archery in general then you have the advantage to be able to hunt an elk. While for those who have not, don’t fret. Practice is the key to everything. You just need the right tools and the right guide in order to teach you the basics of archery and then move on to archery elk hunting. Most of all you need the right attitude. Archery elk hunting is indeed challenging but the rewards of taking home an elk is truly an achievement of your own.
